Top places to explore in Palos Verdes, CA
Palos Verdes is such a beautiful place to escape Los Angeles city life without having to travel far. It is also, in my opinion, the best place in LA for ocean views! I find myself going up here often for a quick getaway during the week. Here are some of my favorite places to explore in Palos Verdes:
- Palos Verdes Estates Shoreline Preserve is the most incredible spot for sunset! I always find myself wanting to go here to see the views of the Pacific Ocean, the Santa Monica Mountains, and Los Angeles downtown lighting up into the night as the sun sets. Don’t forget to bring a blanket to sit on, some snacks (I always bring cheese and crackers and wine), and a jacket since it is usually chillier up there from the ocean breeze.
- Portuguese Bend Reserve is an awesome area with lots of great hiking trails and ocean views. Bring water and remember what you hike down, you have to hike up! You’re likely to see some horses while hiking in this area. And in the spring, there are beautiful yellow wildflowers everywhere!
- Terranea Discovery Trail is an easier hike along the top of the bluffs and takes you through the edge of Terranea Resort and then down to a beach right off the ocean. It’s an easy 2-mile hike with little elevation change. It doesn’t have any shade though so be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water. On your way back, you can even stop at the Terranea lunch spot called Nelson’s for some swordfish tacos and a margarita!
- Shipwreck Trail is a rocky hike that takes you along the water, past many tide pools, and out to the very end of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. When I was there, I saw SO many hermit crabs, dolphins, and seals! I’d recommend bringing water and wearing hiking shoes or at least sneakers since the hike is on rocky ground.
